Of course, the final battle with Big Bully is featured too. I, Bowser’s tile puzzle, and the diamond-patterned flooring. Bob-omb Battlefield (Super Mario 64) Bob-omb Battlefield, the first proper level in the Nintendo 64 launch title, Super Mario 64, served as the introduction to the red-hatted plumber for a lot of gamers in the mid 1990s, and is more than deserving of at least a quick mention in THE SUPER MARIO BROS. Originally called Lethal Lava Land in Super Mario 64, this renamed level saw Mario having to face a series of challenging obstacles while floating above a sea of lava. Using tiles and hinged bricks, the LEGO designers have managed to capture the complex creation inside such a small space.

The above image shows the mountain’s interior, which includes a system of slides to help travel around the level. If you haven’t already, check out our Super Mario 3D All-Stars review, or see where Mario 64 rated on our ranking of 3D Mario from Worst to Best. Each level has 6 Power Stars to be obtained, and a secret seventh Power Star is obtained in each level by collecting 100 coins. Cool Cool MountainĬool Cool Mountain is another favourite amongst fans of Super Mario 64 with plenty of slippery slopes to scale and slide down as well as some friendly penguins to interact with, hopefully, the Chick can stay on the mountain this time. Otherwise, this creation looks to be as challenging to finish as the level itself. When comparing the build to the game, it’s clear to tell that this location was a firm favourite amongst the designers, with only a few minor details missing from the final model. Inspired by the game Super Mario Maker for the Nintendo Wii U, Super Mario 64 Maker allows players to build and share their own custom Super Mario 64 levels. Ruled by the King Bob-omb at the top of the mountain, Mario must dodge the Chain Chomp, use the cannons and scale to the peak to clear the level, as well as find a way to the floating island.

Whilst the game introduces you to the mechanics in Princess Peach’s Castle, the first true test of skill comes when clearing Bob-omb Battlefield. Even the 2D trees have never looked so good. Perhaps the biggest surprise (pun intended) occurs the moment you enter world 4-1.
